"I decided to try this hair spa after seeing it on Instagram. My friend and I wanted to go together, so I emailed in advance to ask if we could have our treatments at the same time. A staff member confirmed, saying they had two head spa beds in separate private rooms and could accommodate two people simultaneously. Based on this, I booked for both of us. When we arrived, we were handed a "menu." The first part mentioned a consultation, but there wasn’t an actual consultation—just a brief explanation of the process. There was also a scent selection sheet, but I think having actual scent samples to smell would greatly enhance the experience. They asked us about our hair concerns and then guided us to our rooms—but we were placed in separate private rooms. This was a bit disappointing, as we had expected to be together based on the earlier communication. During the treatment, I noticed that the towels used had a musty smell. While the chosen scent and shampoo masked it a bit, it was still noticeable at times. That said, the scalp massage and treatment itself were relaxing and decent overall."

"This place is so below average. I came in yesterday for an Aromatherapy massage. The massage was good but the experience was terrible. Women’s changing room was dirty and clumps of hair everywhere on the floor.They can at least pay someone to clean during afternoon hours and not wait until end of the day. The tea & relaxation room was more like a party room with birthday party groups drinking champagne and talking loud. The wall had a quiet zone sign but nobody cared. I paid close to 300$ and couldn’t even feel relaxed. If you are inviting people for champagne then why not send them to a party room. Spas are for peace & quiet time and I am very disappointed to say I could get none."

"I have staycationed at the Shangri-La a couple of times now and been really happy. Tired of the Elmwood’s facilities and having already done the Park Hyatt earlier in the year, I opted to try something new. I wish I did not. TLDR: I was compensated 50% for the facial & the scalp massage ($35). I don’t see myself ever going back pregnant or otherwise. Massage: I noticed immediately that the foot scrub wasn’t booked but I did have to call Denise back to confirm my booking which she didn’t record from our first call. I figured something was lost in translation and likely my misunderstanding so although I mentioned it, I thought it was no big deal at first. I had a massage with Edna who was excellent. It was more a relaxation massage than therapeutic (spa standard). I usually go in weekly to a specialised maternal health center for prenatal massage (including low back) but it was super nice nonetheless. The scalp add on wasn’t anything more than you can do at home. Better to book a head spa appointment. The services are booked too closely together so you waddle to the relaxation lounge, get barely settled, then get called for your facial almost immediately. Next, you waddle to the facialist room that doesn’t have a bathroom in proximity, so you waddle back to the change room & waddle back. I did confirm that all the facial products would be pregnancy safe at least twice on the booking call. The facialist still had to check & did try to confirm with me if salicylic acid was ok. I honestly really don’t know… but said sure. Unfortunately, I suspect she was completely unaware that I was pregnant before the appointment. The facial was a series of unidentified products with some massage, cold compress and a mask. Nothing to write home about. Where today fell apart: The facial actually doesn’t work for heavily pregnant women and I wish I knew. At 38 weeks pregnant, lying on your back for an extended period (like an hour) isn’t recommended because the weight of your uterus can compress the inferior vena cava, a major blood vessel that returns blood to your heart. This can lead to dizziness, shortness of breath, low blood pressure, and reduced blood flow to the baby. I did mention that I generally need to be side lying but didn’t push it willing to give it a try. To accommodate, the bed was slightly inclined further and lowered but still on my back. Midway, I thought “why am I doing this? I feel squished” and asked to rotate through the rest where it felt applicable. Facility Notes: There is no where in the spa to lie down. It’s not really set up as a day spa. I feel it’s most ideal if you’re already at the hotel to grab a quick massage or service but there’s no cohesive experience here. To eat, there are no tables so you’re hunched over a coffee table eating a $60 (delicious) salad that you need to dress yourself. You can never move freely through the spa. There’s always someone trying to attend/walk with you except she’s very confusing. I think I asked three times how to fit the pool into the experience - can I go in these slippers and robe? Do I have to pay first and exit? etc. Lunch was the same confused back and forth. In the change room, I asked about lunch which isn’t posted anywhere. The order experience consists of unfamiliarity with the limited menu so she has to step away to confirm steak can be added to my salad and then 10 minutes later, has to come back again to confirm the doneness of my steak. Still trying to figure things out, I learn you can’t eat poolside and that’s no problem. I’m told lunch will take an hour so she suggests that I consider going to the pool to wait and be called back. I decline but ask if I can eat in the relaxation lounge. She says yes and escorts me from the women’s change room. Lunch actually takes 20 minutes and someone else comes to asks if I want to go back to the change room or waiting area again. So, back we go. I did want to use the pool but after lunch, I thought “better to just go home” and try the Elmwood prenatal package if they can take me soon enough."

"If you are picking a spa in the downtown Toronto area, look no further - this is it! Hands down the best spa I’ve ever been to in Canada. The ladies lounge is big with lots of seating. Cleaning staff are so lovely and very nice. Always willing to show you around in case you get a bit lost (like me). The showers are clean and my massage therapist is great. The best part was being able to use the pool and hot tub afterwards. There’s no rush in leaving the spa as with other locations which want you out after an hour. Snacks are lacking though - they really need to offer variety and not enough in comparison to say Fairmont Spa in Vancouver which is 5-6 different snack options. Overall I highly recommend and would come back."

"Hands Down Best Spa Experience EVER! If you want to experience luxury, this is where it is at. My husband and I went for a couple's massage and got to experience so much more. The pool, jacuzzi, and steam room experience were phenomenal. The lounge area snacks were top tier, also included a glass of Prosseco after the massage. The massage was extremely relaxing and included a foot exfoliation such a great bonus! My masseuse Robyn was extremely sweet and thorough in removing my knots. Special shout out to Matthew for being so warm, kind, and informative during our whole experience. Definitely will be coming back for more !"

"They do a good job with foot reflexology but often pressure you to tip. They do not let you input the amoun in the machine yourself, and when you indicate how much you want to tip they will ask you to put more. This has happened to me 3x."

"I’ve recently started visiting this spa and have generally had a good experience, but an incident occurred that left me deeply concerned about the staff’s preparedness for emergencies. A man collapsed outside the hot tub, becoming completely unresponsive. Though he was breathing, he repeatedly lost consciousness. I tried to wake him up by slapping his face and chest while asking if he had taken anything, but he kept slipping back under. I asked someone to call for help, and when a staff member arrived, I expected them to take charge. Instead, they seemed more worried about whether calling paramedics would disrupt operations rather than assessing the man’s condition. Despite the clear urgency, the staff member hesitated, repeatedly asking the unconscious man if he wanted paramedics, even though he was barely responsive. Meanwhile, I continued trying to keep him awake. After about five minutes, the man started to come to, but the staff still hadn’t taken any real action beyond questioning him. I was shocked at how untrained and unprepared they were—no first aid, no naloxone, not even basic smelling salts. When I left, I asked the front desk staff if the man was okay, and their response was dismissive: “Some people just don’t know their limits.” That reaction was disappointing and concerning. In a place where people use hot tubs, saunas, and possibly other substances, staff should be trained to handle medical emergencies properly. I hope management takes this as an opportunity to improve their emergency response procedures."

I also had a lot of swelling in my ankles and with massage and cupping therapy, the swelling decreased and I am more comfortable. You can tell that Andrea really puts healing energy into your body! "UPDATE: I went back and got a new set of nails. Once again I was impressed with how nice the staff was, I really enjoyed talking with my aesthetician Kaden who did a great job on my nails. Unfortunately, within a day I did have a nail chip. At this point I do believe that it is my nails that aren't compatible with the nail polish. Especially as I got the same colour that the staff say they use on themselves all the time. So I overall I would say worth trying as it was a very good experience and they went out of their way to make sure my experience was made better - just unfortunately it doesn't work for my nails. I had an absolutely lovely experience at the spa. Everyone was very polite, the place was clean and it was a very enjoyable manicure. However, I paid extra to have the gel polish to last longer as I was there on a Sunday with an event on Friday. Within less than 24 hours one of the nails peeled off - they told me I could get anything fixed for free so I went in to get that nail and two others that had chipped fixed. This was all done without any problems and I was once again thrilled with the service. Once again, within 24hours another two nails peeled off, unfortunately I was unable to get them fixed. By the time my even rolled around 7 nails had peeled off or chipped significantly. I have messaged the spa so I am hopeful they had changed out the specific polish but I wanted to leave a review as well to document my experience. At this time I wouldn’t go back simply due to the fact the gel nail polish didn’t last and I normally have no issues with gel polish lasted 3+ weeks."

"I tried out this place before and was not happy. However since they have new management and there recent Facebook photos looked decent I decided to give them another try. I had noted to them that I was giving them another shot, and I was headed on vacation so I needed to make sure that the mani and pedi were done well. There were 3 of us girls and my kiddo, while everything with the pedicures seemed okay, I did notice that they did not use the scraper on my feet, I even grabbed my foot mid pedicure to check them and was questioning. However I continued with my services and moved to the manicure table. While receiving my manicure, my mother next to me already had natural long almond nails, and she said I would like almond shape. The technician perceeded to cut her nails down super short and mid mani I spoke up and said something. He noted that he had a plan and knew she wanted almond shape. Near the end of her cutting, a few technicians started talking in which I can assume was about what to do about her nails because he cut them to short. At the end, she was left with short more square nails. My sister however had asked for a THIN gel overlay, in which they proceeded to layer gel on and on and on. When she was finished, they charged her for her shellac manicure and pedicure, PLUS an additional service of fill and solar gel at $50. When questioned they said that was the charge and she paid and left frustrated. I then paid for mine and my mom service, and left a tip to be kind. However when I got home is when we started noticing the issues. My feet were rough and I had to get them redone. My cuticles were not attended to at all and I got a chip the second day. I reached out to the business to ask for a refund, and they argued with me about the gel services and that they did tell her the price prior in which they did not, and then proceeded to ask us to come back in. Sorry but not going to come back in after I already gave you a second chance. They then said they would review camera footage to see what was said and kept saying we left a tip. I said yes because we can’t all of the issues as there is oil on the cuticle and iv never had to rub my feet inside of a nail salon to confirm there good. Regardless. They only issued us a refunds for the tip. We proceeded to our vacation, and my sisters nail polish was a pink sparkly Color and after the first day the entire pink was lifted off of her toes. My nails after a few days looked weeks old as they painted away from the cuticle and did not tend to them, along with painful hangnails. As for my sons, they did not tend to his cuticles at all either. I would not recommend this place especially if you want to support a business who focus’s on quality and customer service. We won’t be back."
